Tomb Raider Catalyst has seemingly been delayed to 2028, according to Amazon’s gaming lead

Tomb Raider: Catalyst appears to have been delayed to 2028, according to a recent interview. Amazon’s general manager of gaming, Jeffrey Gattis, was speaking to The Game Business about the range of titles being funded or published by Amazon, and whether its strategy mainly focused on triple-A, double-A or indie titles. Gattis replied that its strategy involved “all of those” and gave examples of this, at one point mentioning Tomb Raider: Catalyst and saying it was coming in 2028, something that hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. It's not just Baldur's Gate 4 – Larian is "not involved in any" Baldur's Gate 3 projects now, but devs tease Divinity news is on the way

There's a new comic set in the world of Baldur's Gate 3 on the way. On the back of the publication being revealed, Larian Studios took the opportunity to remind people this is a licensed venture, and the studio isn't secretly chipping away on anything based on the Forgotten Worlds. After Dark Horse Comics revealed the upcoming Baldur's Gate 3 book, there was some excitement at Larian's potential involvement, prompting a response quelling any rumors. "Maximum hijinks are happening right now, but we're not involved in any BG3 related projects," says a post from Larian on Twitter , with an image of founder Swen Vincke getting fitted in armor. It's not specified why, exactly, he's got a medieval costume on, but it also looks like he's been given some lines to memorise. Perhaps something to do with Divinity ? Unlikely, given the wording of the next part – my guess is it's an endorsement of some kind for the comic. Maximum hijinks are happening right now, but we’re not involved in any BG3 related projects. As soon as we bust outta here, we'll share more about @divinity https://t.co/SANGQ82QZ8 pic.twitter.com/v75lPYljU8 July 25, 2026 "As soon as we bust outta here, we'll share more about Divinity," the tweet finishes. Larian's been adamant for a while now that it's done working on anything to do with Baldur's Gate in a substantial way. After the whirlwind of the third, with it being a best-seller and an awards darling, the team has decided to use the boost in recognition and resources to resurrect the Divinity series. The last installment, Divinity Original Sin 2, will be ten years old next year, making it a good time for a fresh entry. Whether or not we get Baldur's Gate 4 is really a question for Hasbro, who owns the Dungeons and Dragons IP, and it doesn't seem to be a priority for the time-being , although Wizards of the Coast president John Hight previously said "of course" it'll happen eventually . Whenever it does, though, it'll be from a studio other than Larian, even if you see Vincke in a shiny chestplate. Lord Of The Rings Beloved PS2 Games Just Got Gorgeous Remasters

Despite only getting a handful of video game adaptations, The Lord of the Ring's translation to our PC monitors and CRT screens has always been rather successful. Sure, there have been a few duds here and there, but, for the most part, LOTR has continued to offer memorable new adventures across Middle-earth as well as faithful retellings of the movies and books that continue to entertain fans to this very day.

A Final Fantasy 6 remake would need four or five games to do the story justice, Yoshi-P says

Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida (aka Yoshi-P) has explained why a Final Fantasy 6 remake isn’t necessarily feasible without it becoming an even larger project than the Final Fantasy 7 Remake was. Yoshida was on stage at the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival in Berlin , where he was discussing the series with fellow director Naoki Hamaguchi (who directed the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy). Hamaguchi was asked which game was the biggest influence on his life. He answered that it was Final Fantasy 6, but also warned that every time he says this it results in stories saying he’s going to remake it, when that isn’t the case. Read More...

Dragon Age veteran says a series comeback would be difficult with EA's "frightening" graveyard of dormant IP: "I suspect that it wouldn't happen"

A new Dragon Age game would have a very difficult time getting off the ground, according to the series former producer and long-time BioWare veteran Mark Darrah. BioWare's epic fantasy series hasn't had a smooth ride as of late, which is odd considering Dragon Age Inquisition was a critical and commercial smash. After a decade-long gap between games and multiple internal reboots , Dragon Age: The Veilguard tripped past the finish line when it came out in 2024 to mild sales . Speaking to FRVR , Darrah says the Dragon Age: The Veilguard and the series' wider troubles were perhaps "happening because of EA's complicated relationship to shipping games at all." He then recalls how "someone once described to me EA as a hedge fund with a video game hobby that it wished it didn't spend so much money on, and I think that remains true." The BioWare veteran of over 20 years doesn't see things changing anytime soon, either. "I have no concept of who could, would, possibly pitch that at EA," he says, partly because "EA owns a frightening number of IPs that are dormant." You can perhaps find Dragon Age laying in a damp cell alongside Titanfall and Mirror's Edge, then. As for the reasons why a new Dragon Age project could hit a proverbial wall, well, there's quite a few. "The problem is I don't know who at BioWare would pitch a Dragon Age," he continues. "So the other option is somebody else within the EA organization decides they're gonna pitch a Dragon Age and, what I expect would happen if they try to do that, is somebody at BioWare would essentially become one of those people jumping under the vents to rip that person apart. I suspect that it wouldn't happen for a variety of reasons." For context, BioWare's been hit hard by mass layoffs at EA multiple times over the last few years, meaning the storied developer might not even have the bandwidth to make a Dragon Age game alongside its next Mass Effect. Complicating things further is the impending proposed buyout of EA by a group of investment firms led by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Group. Darrah questions whether the publisher's new ownership would even be interested in the series or the studio at all: "I could argue yes and no… do you want BioWare at all in this world?" "It's a really compelling place to be left in": Dragon Age fans aren't giving up on the RPG – they're expanding it.

"I want this guy to make Final Fantasy 17": Yoshi-P embarrasses Final Fantasy 7 Remake lead with the "highest praise you can get" from players live on stage at FF14 Fan Fest

Speaking on stage at Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest, the MMORPG's lead Naoki 'Yoshi-P' Yoshida lays the praise on Naoki Hamaguchi, saying that fans are desperate for the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director to work on the next mainline entry in the long-running JRPG series. The pair were standing on stage together at MMO's annual fan convention for a panel called Naoki's Room. The two series leads, who coincidentally share the same first name, answered a number of prepared questions during the talk. Towards the end of the discussion, Yoshi-P revealed that he's received many comments from fans asking for Hamaguchi to work on FF17. "But there were comments along the lines of 'I want this guy [Hamaguchi] to make Final Fantasy 17,'" he says. Yoshi-P continues by explaining how highly he regards the compliment. "So I think that's probably the highest praise you can get," he continues, before adding "you don't have to respond." The FF7R lead is clearly embarrassed by the comment when he says, "my response?" Yoshi-P then makes a gesture that he doesn't need to answer before quickly wrapping up the discussion. Did...Yoshi-P just hint that Hamaguchi is maybe working on FF17?? LOLYoshi-P: I think it's one of the biggest compliments people were saying in the comments they wish Hamaguchi is making FF17. But you don't have to answer...!Hamaguchi: If I answer...Yoshi-P: No, no, don't! pic.twitter.com/7KaNpK67nM July 26, 2026 Some have speculated that this is a hint that Hamaguchi is indeed working on FF17, but it's vague at best. While Hamaguchi is visibly embarrassed, it could be from the compliment, from being caught off guard, or because he's unsure if he can talk about the projects he's working on. Equally, Yoshi-P may have cut Hamaguchi off to save him from his embarrassment. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was a huge success and we're sure Hamaguchi would do an excellent job developing a completely new mainline entry, rather than his current remakes. However, as the third part of the remake trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation , isn't scheduled to be released until 2027, we hope he focuses his energy on perfecting that game first. Final Fantasy 6, 8, or 9 remakes would need even more games than the FF7 trilogy, Yoshi-P warns: "We'd probably end up having to release them in 4 or maybe even 5 installments."

Baldur's Gate 3 True Third-Person Camera Mod Goes Viral, Sparks Debate About Whether It Erases the Game's Identity

Baldur’s Gate 3 might be three years old, but it’s still the subject of much debate — and many new mods. One mod in particular has gone viral, leading some fans to say developer Larian should keep it in mind for its future games. Others, though, believe using it to play Baldur’s Gate 3 essentially amounts to heresy. The mod in question is Relysia’s True Third-Person Camera, which was released on Nexus Mods earlier this month. It features a modern, over-the-shoulder third-person camera view where the camera stays closely attached to your character. There is a dynamic FOV when running, and smooth crouch transitions. In this over-the-shoulder mode, the camera stays at a fixed distance to retain a close perspective. During gameplay actions, such as spell targeting, jumping, or inspecting the camera temporarily switches back to the normal view and automatically returns to over-the-shoulder mode once finished. This is of course very different from the default Baldur’s Gate 3 camera, which is a top-down, isometric camera view in the classic computer role-playing game style. The mod essentially lets PC players jog through Faerûn like they do in BioWare’s Dragon Age or CD Projekt’s The Witcher games. Relysia’s mod blew up after X / Twitter account Brator News published a video showcasing the new camera perspective. It’s seen 3.9 million views so far. Baldur's Gate 3 Third Person showcase. https://t.co/dZbEolEQbh — Brator News (@BratorNews) July 24, 2026 It wasn’t long before a debate sprung up around the video, with some recoiling in horror at the idea you would play Baldur’s Gate 3 in this way. These critics claim the changes made by the new camera perspective are a mismatch for Larian’s cRPG design, not least in terms of exploration and combat, and any benefits gained from a more immersive experience are outweighed by the joys of traditional cRPG play. Of course, this is just a mod, and you can simply not use it. But that line of thinking hasn’t stopped plenty of hand-wringing, and the perception that mods like this one are somehow an attack on the cRPG genre itself. "Not every game needs to be playable from every camera angle," said X / Twitter user manwe . "People treat the camera like it's some filter slapped onto the screen. In reality, the camera is the foundation of game design. Changing a game's perspective requires reevaluating dozens of systems, from level design to combat, animations to UI. Reducing a change to a game's design philosophy down to 'just add it as an option' shows a complete lack of understanding of how game development actually works." There's plenty more reaction like that. “CRPG larpers are truly a blight on the genre after Baldur's Gate,” said X / Twitter user vetha . “You don't get to say you love a unique and underrepresented genre when it's actively being replaced by action RPG slop and more and more companies stop making cRPG projects.” “I swear I don’t understand the obsession with wanting every game to be the same third-person experience and not respect someone’s artistic choice,” X / Twitter user wolfy offered . “Cyberpunk gets levelled with the same criticism esp when the core experience relies on their perspective.” Some, though, are thrilled with the mod. “I've been playing Baldur's Gate 3 this way for a long time, and it's an absolute blast,” said X / Twitter user Tarik , who called on Larian to “seriously reconsider what players have been asking for.” “The popularity of the WASD movement and Native Camera Tweaks mods shows that there's a real demand for this style of gameplay,” they continued. “They've even attracted people who normally wouldn't play a cRPG. “During the recent Divinity AMA, you said these features won't be in the game. As someone who truly admires and respects your work, I sincerely hope you'll reconsider that decision. “Making these features optional, disabled by default but available for anyone who wants them doesn't seem like an unreasonable request. It would let players enjoy the game the way they prefer without changing the experience for those who like the classic controls. “Please, Larian, listen to your players. We love your games, and many of us genuinely believe these features would make them even better.” This plea has itself come under fire from those who want Larian to stick to its cRPG guns not just for Divinity, but for all its games. “Me when I want my CRPG to not play like a CRPG,” said one person in response . This raises the question: should Larian include optional WASD movement and camera controls as well as the traditional cRPG camera controls? “It's funny how some of you keep pretending optional features somehow erase the game's identity,” Tarik continued. “No one's asking Larian to remove click-to-move, force a third-person camera, or replace turn-based combat. We're asking for optional WASD movement and camera controls features that players can enable or ignore. “If your preferred way to play remains completely unchanged, why are you so threatened by someone else having another option? “Calling every third-person game ‘just another Witcher clone’ is an incredibly shallow argument. Camera controls don't define a game's genre its mechanics, systems, and design philosophy do. Baldur's Gate 3 would still be a turn-based cRPG built on D&D rules, regardless of whether I move with WASD or click the ground. “More player choice doesn't take anything away from you. It just gives more people another way to enjoy the same game.” Something interesting to come out of the reaction to this mod is that there is clearly a lot of love for Dragon Age: Origins out there, as the mod makes Baldur’s Gate 3 look a bit like BioWare’s 2009 fantasy role-playing game and lots of people have picked up on that. Subsequent Dragon Age games deviated somewhat from the old-school RPG systems and mechanics and even vibe of Origins, and the latest release, the much-maligned Dragon Age: The Veilguard , has essentially killed the series. But in an age of remakes, I do wonder how well a Dragon Age: Origins remake would do. Pretty well, I’d suggest. As for Baldur’s Gate 3 and Larian, there’s no chance of an official update to make it play as it does with this mod, given the developer has said it won't release any more big patches for the game. And it doesn't sound like it's in the plan for future games, either. Larian confirmed in January that Divinity’s camera will work “very similar” to Baldur’s Gate 3’s , so expect much the same when the developer's hotly anticipated Baldur's Gate 3 follow-up eventually comes out. If that upsets you, well... I imagine that, eventually, there will be a true third-person camera mod for Divinity, too. Wesley is Director, News at IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100. GTA 6 Officially Has An Expiration Date

Grand Theft Auto 6 has been subject to a number of minor controversies that have dissuaded certain players from even buying the game, despite the hype for it growing to exponentially large heights. There was the move to lock a considerable amount of content behind the more expensive $100 version, the several delays that pushed the game back a number of years, and the choice to ditch physical discs in favor of a code in a box. While these won't prevent GTA 6 from selling millions of copies, it's certainly proving to be an issue, especially the latter problem.

Final Fantasy 6, 8, or 9 remakes would need even more games than the FF7 trilogy, Yoshi-P warns: "We'd probably end up having to release them in 4 or maybe even 5 installments"

Careful what you wish for, Final Fantasy fans. Potential future remakes of other games in the series would probably require even more individual parts than the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy – at least, if they were remade in that same style – according to Final Fantasy 14 's Naoki 'Yoshi-P' Yoshida. The MMORPG's director said as much during a panel at Fan Fest Berlin – with Final Fantasy 7 Remake lead Naoki Hamaguchi also in attendance – warning folks that the wait for an entire remake of Final Fantasy 6, for example, would be even more painfully long than what we've become accustomed to. https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/R6Yb4ZS3rLo "Of course I understand the feelings of the players, but you gotta think about it," Yoshi-P says, per a translator, of fan requests for future series remakes. "Look at Final Fantasy 6, it's such an incredibly huge game. The scale is just immense." But the same argument is true for other games in the series, like Final Fantasy 8 and Final Fantasy 9, he adds: "So, of course, now because you are working on the Final Fantasy 7 series, I do get that people would be asking for remakes of other titles. But if we did remake those other titles, we'd probably end up having to release them in four or maybe even five installments." Final Fantasy games used to be absolutely huge in their scope because the developers couldn't render everything in excruciating detail as they can now – nor did they need to. Final Fantasy 6 was able to fit 14 playable characters, a huge world map that dramatically changes throughout the adventure, and countless epic fights onto a humble SNES cartridge. You can imagine how doing all of that in a game with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's production value would be tricky. Ahead of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation , Hamaguchi himself made clear that a hypothetical remake of Final Fantasy 6 would be in better hands with another developer anyway. He seems more keen on doing something new after Revelation ships. At Fan Fest, Hamaguchi explained that he felt incredibly lucky that so many developers stayed together for all three games in the FF7 Remake trilogy, back to back. "That's why I can't just sit here and go, 'Yeah, yeah, I'll remake [FF6],' because it's not quite that easy." Perhaps the way forward for Final Fantasy remakes is the upcoming Final Fantasy Resonance , a gorgeous pixel art game with turn-based combat, rather than the giant world of the FF7 Remake games. Final Fantasy 14 Evercold changes housing for the better, Yoshi-P says, and World of Warcraft's "amazing" take on the MMO staple has "been a good source of research."
